Annual Report

This annual report from the NIHFF had been in a sorry state in 2007. The previous design had been dull, and nearly-entirely child-focused, which detracted from the sophisticated image they’d been hoping to convey. I decided to use illustration and duotoning to reduce the sense of clutter they’d previously struggled with. Dynamic shapes and floods of colour allow the piece to become energized and exciting, without looking child-like.

 

The NIHFF really wanted to stay away from standard “invention imagery,” which is why I devised what we began to refer to as “the scrawl.” We combined this with a series of target-like concentric circles, all applied to the duotoned and illustrated people featured throughout the book.
