Editorial Rebrand

This Montreal arts and culture magazine run by students had all the right pieces, but wasn’t coming together, due to a lack of cohesive design. It needed a baseline grid system and strong, simple structure that would allow its content freedom.

 

One of the most important things was to provide this team with enough freedom to have the magazine still feel like a pulsating piece of abstract, evolving art, allowing articles to dictate their designs, within the larger system. Using one article as an indicator of how they could take the system and explore it, I created a structure that would position them for success. The nameplate logo/article teaser system I developed grew out of grid experimentation, conveying the magazine’s cutting-edge approach, ensemble nature, and intense sense of focus and bravery.
