When I photograph people, I'm usually looking to find a moment that tells their story, or gives the viewer a window on their history or personality. It's a between-the-lines sort of thing: seeking out their core to reveal what makes them so alive, real, hurt, gentle, etc. I'm not just looking for a moment with emotion, but a moment that surpasses language in being able to convey the most genuine truth within that subject. I learn so much about people by taking their photograph.
